Dear Porter Families, Everything I want to say starts with "I wish I had....". Most of my memories of Uncle Bill are from when I was a child and a young man, but there are a few later ones. We kept in touch mainly thru Mom and Dads tellings of talking to Aunt Elaine and Uncle Bill. He impressed me as highly intelligent and friendly. I enjoyed the too few conversations we had and regret there were not more. I will always remember pulling alongside their car, on our way to a restaurant in Florida, getting Uncle Bill to roll down his window, and asking "pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" We wish you our best in these sad times and pray for all of you, especially Aunt Elaine, Love, Kim and Jim Porter

I will miss my brother, Bill, he was a challenging and competitive spirit in my life and we had many good times together. May God comfort you during this difficult time. I first met Bill in 1949 at my first Porter Family dinner. He was very kind, warm, and welcoming to a slightly frightened 17-year-old. Over the years, I could see from afar, those qualities shared with his mother, making him one of the best husbands and fathers I have known. Sister in law, Jeanne Porter

We always think there will be plenty of time. There never will be enough,to spend with family. Our lives are full of adventure and living. With this said! For them closest to you, living on with fond memories will have to be enough. Thanks for the ones I have of you and Aunt Elaine. Here without you!

Aunt Elaine, I will always think of Uncle Bill as incredibly welcoming and gracious, generous with his time and his talent. When we moved to the Philadelphia area 16 year ago, the two of you opened your arms and hearts to our transplant family. Over the years we enjoyed visits to your house where we felt treated like royalty. We will miss him. He is in our prayers as are you, Bill Jr., Chris, John and the rest of the family. Love, Paul and Natalie Stadter

Many happy memories come to mind when we think of Bill and we share the families' grief in saying goodbye to a wonderful Husband and Father. I know well, Elaine, that given Bill's choice, he would have stayed by your side until your last breath. He was so caring and devoted to you! Bill was always giving a helping hand to everyone and his generosity shown through. He couldn't resist a salesman, also, we remember some outstanding neighborhood parties you two hosted. Many times when I telephoned you Elaine, Bill would pick up and start chatting away, always with friendship and fun until you had to ask if I called him or you? :) We are blessed and give thanks for Bill's good life here on earth and admire his courage in the physical suffering he endured. Bill's name will always bring a smile and a yearning to follow his lead. We are holding you and all the family in our closest thoughts and prayers.

As a supervisor with Dupont, Bill was always striving to do the right thing for the right reasons. He taught me how to look at situations at work and in life that still help me 35 years later. The world is a better place for having had Bill in it. Nancy K Wilmington DE
