Walter Green Fraser, III

Walter Green Fraser, III, age 87, passed away on July 30, 2022.

He was born in 1934, to Walter Green Fraser, Jr. and Mabel A. Fraser (nee Friez). He was born in Mount Washington, just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. His family moved to Prospect Park, PA, where he played football for the local high school, in the position of defensive tackle. His teammates nicknamed him “Rock” for his strength and sturdiness. Upon completing high school, he moved on to the Army where he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. During his tenure in the Army, he would continually travel from Fort Belvoir to his girlfriend in Philadelphia (Elizabeth Smeby), who eventually became his wife, and both were very proud to give birth to 3 girls and 2 boys.

After graduating from Drexel University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, he was employed for a short time at Westinghouse, followed by a long career at DuPont, travelling to many places, such as Saudi Arabia, England, and even bringing his whole family to Luxembourg for a 3-year stay. He was an avid fan of sports, especially Notre Dame and the Steelers. He also was an avid golfer, being a part of the Dupont Country club and even having a chance to play the Old Course at St. Andrew’s while he was abroad. Walt was always continuous in his faith and love of the Lord and continually inspired his children in that matter and the duties we owe to God, others and society, especially to God. He was a provider, protector, an instructor, and a mentor. He will be greatly missed and celebrated at the same time.

Survived by him is his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Stackhouse Fraser, his sister-in-law, Barbara Fraser, his daughters Suzanne Elizabeth Coe (Timothy), Lynn Marie Fraser, and Wendy Pluscht (Joseph), his sons Walter David (Amanda) and Christopher Lee Fraser (Sara), his grandson and granddaughters (Sara Coe, Eric Coe(Gabby), Megan Caulfield (Steve), Kate Fraser, Nora Fraser, and Eliza-Jane Fraser, his niece and nephews. Walt was predeceased by his Mother and Father, previously mentioned, his younger brother Richard Fraser and his younger sister Linda Fleming(nee Fraser), his granddaughters, Laura Evaline Coe and Caitlyn Hayes Fraser.

One thing that was very special about him was his smile when his children or grandchildren visited him. Any accomplishment that he made in his life was nothing compared to his satisfaction that his children were God’s children and faithful to the Lord. Saturday morning, he heard these words…. “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” Well done, sir, well done…. We thank you for being you and our father and friend… The Fraser Family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to any charity of your choice. I would think that Walt would say, “Flowers are a waste of time, but if we can help someone else, that is what we need to do.” He was a very practical man and one of his sayings was “Give a quarter but owe none.”

He is with God now and enjoying His blessing, may the Lord’s blessing rest on you all… Thank you!
