Virginia Mullen Lewing, age 90, of Greenville, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023 attended by her loving family after a long, happy and fulfilling life.
Ginny Lewing was born in Rochester, NY in 1932 to Raymond F. and Helen Dugan Mullen. She received a BA degree from Nazareth College. In 1955, she married William Albert Lewing of Monson, MA. They moved to Wilmington where Bill embarked on a long career with the DuPont Company. With her husband, she raised a close-knit family of four children whose success she took much pride in. Ginny developed a keen interest in the du Pont family, their Estates, Gardens and Libraries in the Brandywine Valley. She worked for 25 years as a docent and flower arranger at the Nemours Mansion and volunteered as a tour guide at Winterthur Museum & Gardens. Ginny and Bill retired to Audubon CC in Naples, FL in 1992 while maintaining their Delaware roots and a home they built in Williamhurst. They were members of Wilmington CC and St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, daughter Mary and brother T. David Mullen of Quogue, NY. She is survived by her sister Jean Whelan of Hamilton, MA; her children David Lewing and wife Kristin of New York, NY; Douglas Lewing and wife Sally of Yardley, PA; Tara Lewing Fineman and husband Brad of Arlington, VA; Drew Lewing and wife Sophie of Malvern, PA and 8 grandchildren, Ginna, Ally, Jake, Maxime, Noah and Charlie Lewing, Graeme and Will Fineman. Ginny will be remembered as a gracious host and for her kindness and outreach to all.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the Stonegates caregivers who were so kind to Ginny, especially Heather and Jessica. Words aren’t adequate to express our appreciation for all you did.
