Verla J. Hepler, 82, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on April 29, 2024, surrounded by close friends. Verla was a woman of unwavering strength, courage, and humor, who fought bravely until the very end. Now, free from pain, she peacefully watches over her beloved family and friends.
Born in 1942 in Chester, PA, Verla graduated from Chester High School in 1960. In 1963, she married the love of her life, Fred Hepler. Verla embarked on her career in customer service at DuPont’s Finance Department in 1960, where her dedication to process management and remarkable problem-solving abilities earned her numerous accolades. She continued her career at JP Morgan Chase from 1992 to 2001, where she continued to shine brightly, earning regular recognition and awards for her outstanding contributions.
Verla forged lifelong friendships throughout her career at DuPont, JP Morgan Chase, and even through her passion for pet sitting. She always stayed connected with her loved ones through heartfelt cards and notes, never missing a birthday or holiday. Verla found joy in traveling and her weekly gatherings with friends at Dunkin Donuts.
Verla was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hepler, her father, John Aikin, and her mother, Marie McLaughlin-Aikin. She is survived by her older sister, Ruth Siegel, her niece, Sharon Siegel-Lutgen, and her adopted family, Steve, Marie, Casey (wife Rachel and daughter), and Sydney Johnson, whom she took under her wings over 35 years ago. Verla’s presence at every grandparent’s day, graduation, birthday, and holiday for the Johnson family will be deeply missed.
Verla’s love, compassion, and caring ways touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving many fond memories. To honor Verla’s memory, a celebration of her life will be held on June 8, 2024, at 1:00 pm at 7 Vivian Court, Newark, DE 19702. All who had the privilege of knowing her are invited to join in remembering what a special person she was.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Verla’s memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, whose compassionate care not only comforted Verla but also provided solace and support to her caregivers and family during their time of need.
