Velva R. Lawson

Velva R. Lawson (nee Jordin), age 95, of Claymont, Delaware, passed peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.ย  Velva was born on April 19, 1923, an only child of the late Helen Armstrong. She has been reunited with her husband, Paul Lawson, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage. Velva created lasting memories by those she is survived by daughter, Susan Lilley (David) of Delaware, son Robert Lawson of Maryland, grandchildren Tracy Lilley, June Parkinson, Amanda Payne (Chris), Kyle Lawson (Amanda), and ten great-grandchildren.

Velva provided and cared for her family. Never idle, she worked as a cashier at Hearns Brothers Market for 25 years. Following her retirement, she continued to work part-time at local flower shops. Velva always made time to follow her passion of painting and spent countless hours in her utility room creating treasures for those she loved. Velva loved being on the water, whether fishing, crabbing or just riding. She was quick-witted and ornery, always spreading laughter and joy. She was most happy with family and friends. Her stories, hugs and presence will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her family wishes to express much appreciation to all who continued to provide their love, attention and care to Velva.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice.

Thoughts of my cousin Velva have provided me many warm, loving and funny, funny memories throughout the years. We kept examples of her art work in our house. I am particularly fond of memories of Velva, older than the Armstrong bunch ( chronically - Diane, Marnie, Nancy, Joanne and Sandy) bring the โ€˜funโ€™ at any get/together and always willing to โ€˜do hairโ€™ and polish the fingernails and toenails of 5 little cousins.๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜ขโค๏ธMarnie
