Thomas L. Winterbottom

Thomas Love Winterbottom, 92, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

He attended Media High School and later a trade school for drafting. Thomas worked at Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co., later renamed Penn Ship, for over 20 years. His career first began as a draftsman before becoming a supervisor in design. In 1981, Thomas and his family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and he worked at Avondale Shipyard in management for design. He retired in 1998 and returned to Delaware.

Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Following his discharge, Thomas was a faithful member of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Thomas is predeceased by his wife Joan Winterbottom (née Coolbaugh). He is survived by his two daughters, Linda W. Steele and Lisa W. Heinsohn (Bill); his son, Thomas J. Winterbottom; his grandchildren Ryan Steele, Matthew Steele, Tyler Foster (Arianne) and Kelsey Foster; and his great-grandson Colton Steele.
