Theresa M. Smith

Theresa McKenzie Smith (Terry) passed away peacefully on June 10 at her home in Hockessin, Delaware. She was 76 years old.

Born in Frostburg, Maryland, Terry was the daughter of Jonas E. McKenzie and Pearl H. Davis. Theresa is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dan; stepson David Smith and his wife, Tara; daughter Christa Ondish and her husband, Sean; daughter Stephanie Sullivan and her husband, Marty; and seven grandchildren: Owen, Amelia, Jude, Audrey, Tess, Brady, and Chase.

Terry grew up in Grantsville, Maryland, where she attended high school and was both a cheerleader and homecoming queen. She graduated from Strayer University in Washington, D.C., and began her career as a flight attendant. In 1972, she began working for the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware. She married her husband, Dan, who also worked for DuPont, in 1978.

During their life together, Dan and Terry were fortunate to live in both Sydney, Australia, and Mexico City for several years, with the remainder of their time spent in Hockessin, Delaware. Terry’s primary passion was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother and Grammy. She also loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and trips to Europe with family and friends. More recently, annual family vacations with all the children and grandchildren became a cherished highlight. Terry will be greatly missed by many, and her memory will be held in our hearts as we remember her dry sense of humor and the love she created around her.

As Terry requested, her burial service will be private. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home, 7320 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Main Line Animal Rescue via https://www.mlar.org/tribute-gift.
