Tammy W. Elkins

Tammy W. Elkins, age 68, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26, 2026. She was born September 20, her maternal grandmother’s birthday, in Enid, Oklahoma to Darrell P. and Naomi Morrison Miller.

Tammy grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1975. She continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor and Maters Degrees in Organic Chemistry. While at OU she met Neal Elkins and they married, but divorced a few years later. Tammy went on to receive her PhD from the University of Texas in Austin.

Tammy’s career spanned many years, she had many accomplishments and earned several patents. She worked summers for Halliburton in Duncan and Conoco-Phillips in Bartlesville. She also worked at the elevators in Enid checking the moisture in wheat! She then embarked on her career with DuPont at Brevard in Hendersonville, North Carolina, working with x-ray film, being an integral part in the development of UltraVision.

From North Carolina, Tammy continued her career with DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware in Research and Development and also the Personal Care Division. Tammy retired from DuPont in 2016, remembered by her colleagues and friends as a person of integrity and dedication, whose meticulous work and innovation helped shape her career at DuPont.

In her leisure time, Tammy enjoyed traveling and she had a passion for art, taking lessons in Watercolors at the Art Museum in Philadelphia. She loved spending time with her sister and her family in Arizona for the holidays and special events and with her sister and cousins in the “Birthday Club”, traveling to different cities and having unique experiences.

Tammy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Ron Johnson of Arizona, nieces, Roni Sanchez and Staci Marcy, also of Arizona, and several cousins in Kansas and Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Naomi Miller and her grandparents.

Tammy Elkins will be remembered for the life she lived, the love she gave, the laughter she shared, and the legacy she leaves behind. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in peace, you will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
