Ruben Hopkins of Wilmington, Delaware, at the age of 86 he had succumbed to cancer after a lengthy battle on July 17, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Lovingly known as “Papi”. He was born in Lima, Peru as the eleventh child to Jose and Ana Maria Hopkins.
He graduated from the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru with an accounting degree. Shortly after he married Rosa Herrera and their marriage was blessed for 62 years. His career was a computer operator since 1958. His employer in Peru offered him the opportunity to relocate to the United States which he did, and he retired in the year 2000. He enjoyed his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He enjoyed his woodworking, inventing, designing and building many beautiful objects from wood. He loved soccer, boxing, swimming, fishing and working on his clocks. He was an avid reader of history in addition to many other topics. He wrote a book on his genealogy based off of his grandfather’s letters from the late 1800s that were accepted in the National Library in Peru due to the historical events mentioned therein.
He is predeceased by his parents and nine of his ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Rosa, daughters; Rosanna Savedra and her husband, Frank, of California, Inez Carvalho and her husband, Stewart, of Florida, Jacqueline Hopkins of Delaware, his son Francis Hopkins and his wife, Sheila, of Delaware. His 12 grandchildren and his 12 great grandchildren. Rest in peace Papi until we meet again.
