Bob Ross was an integral part of my youth and early manhood. We were Eagle Scouts and served on the East Carolina Council BSA Camp Staff 1958-1963. Bob's area of instruction was in the Nature and Wildlife disciplines, his mentor being the distinguished East Carolina Scouter, Bob Wolff. Over the years at summer camp, Bob Ross became the recognized authority for the natural resources merit badges leading to the Eagle Scout rank. Bob also assumed the leadership of the national honor camper association, the Order of the Arrow. He served as Lodge Chief for East Carolina Council. Subsequently he served as the OA Area Chief where his influence was felt on the national level. At the University of North Carolina 1959-1962, we were Brothers in Sigma Nu Fraternity during which time Bob participated in active campus services. Bob Ross lived a life true to the qualities espoused by Scout, Fraternity & University guiding principles. Kind, Gentle & Giving, his presence will always be with us, thus making us better individuals

I don’t even know where to start dad, you have taught me more about life’s lessons and how to deal with them just like mom. Your candor and directness always drove home your message and, in the end, you always said go with what feels right and that’s what I will always do. Today is day 7 since you passed, not one day has or will ever go by that I don’t look at that phone and want to give you a call. People always ask me, where did I get my sense of humor from? I confess, I picked up most of it from you with the quick one liner’s, dry jokes and the endless funny stories you used to tell me. I admit, at first when I realized you weren’t always able to remember things or carry on a conversation like you used to, I was very concerned for your wellbeing. It was difficult for me to have patience as time went on, but it was great reliving all of our memories over the years as we chatted when were together. Dementia is a terrible disease, but I am glad you are now free of the stress and anxiety it caused you as time went on. I can’t wait to meet your Great Grandson next month and I am sorry you won’t get to meet him. I think he actually has our nose! I will make sure to tell him about GDaddy and what a wonderful, kind, generous man he is who could always light up the room with his smile and laughter. I just want to say thanks dad, may you finally rest in peace you’ve earned it! Love, RoRo
