Raymond P. Elliott

Raymond P. Elliott, age 95, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025.

Born in Camden, New Jersey in 1930, Ray attended St. Paul Elementary School and graduated from Wilmington High School. Soon after, he began a long and dedicated career with the Diamond State Telephone Company, where he worked from 1948 until his retirement in 1986. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the submarine USS Sirago and was honorably discharged in March 1954. In August 1954, Ray married Dolores Gorecki, with whom he shared many years before their divorce in 1981. He also worked summer evenings as a cashier at Brandywine Raceway and, after retirement, enjoyed driving a shuttle van at the Philadelphia Airport.

A man of many interests, Ray loved nothing more than being on the water and could often be found motor boating, water skiing, or scuba diving. He knew the rivers and tributaries of the upper Chesapeake Bay area like the back of his hand. Ray also enjoyed bowling, dancing, downhill skiing, and traveling — activities that reflected his zest for life and adventurous spirit.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine (Stein) Elliott, his father, Phillip Elliott, and his sister, Mildred (O’Connor). He is survived by his three children: Raymond (Arlene) Elliott of Ann Arbor, MI, Robert (Mary’an) Elliott of Newtown Square, PA, and Dianne Elliott of Wilmington, DE. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Lauren (Drew) Lakebrink, Christine (Patrick) Pastore, Austin (Sienna) Elliott, Erika (Andrew) Lefeber, and Benjamin Elliott, as well as four great-grandchildren. All will lovingly remember him for his humor, kindness, and love of family.

Raymond’s family would like to thank the staff at Foulk Living for going above-and-beyond in providing compassionate care for the past several years.

Friends and family are invited to a brief memorial service on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11:00am at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Raymond’s name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
