Ray G. Steele

Ray G. Steele, 86, of Wilmington, DE died Monday, September 19, 2026 at Sunrise Senior Living in Wilmington.

Ray was born in 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in New Castle, DE.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at The University of Delaware.  After graduation he was immediately hired by the DuPont Company where he worked for over 40 years.

Ray’s work at DuPont took him and his family to Tennessee, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maryland and eventually back to Wilmington.  Shorter-term assignments also took him around the world including trips to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, France, and Switzerland. He was fortunate to have his wife, Jane, join him on many of those adventures.

Ray loved to travel and especially loved sharing those trips with Jane and his girls. He enjoyed working with his hands making furniture when he was young and fixing things around the house.

Ray is predeceased by his wife of 61 years Jane and his parents Ray G. and Martha B.Steele, He is survived by his daughters Jane van Adrichem Boogaert (Paul) and Jennifer McGuire (Matthew) as well as his grandchildren Max, Jay, Sam and Ryan.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A service will begin at 11:00 a.m. . Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.
