R. Bruce Pinkerton

R. Bruce Pinkerton passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024 in Accent Care Hospice at Christiana Hospital. He was several days short of his 90th birthday.

Bruce was born in Abington, PA in March 1934 and was the son of the late Neilson H. and Sara K. Pinkerton. He grew up in Chester and Lancaster Counties PA and Camden County NJ. Bruce graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster in 1959 and earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1964.

He was married August 22, 1959 to Jane L. Risser of Lititz, PA who passed away in May 2016. They moved to Newark when Bruce began his graduate studies that year at the University of Delaware and where they have lived ever since. He was employed by the DuPont Company as a Research and Development chemist at Jackson Lab and continued there at various locations with several years spent at the Experimental Station retiring in 1993.

Some of Bruce’s favorite hobbies were landscape gardening, restoring antiques, genealogy and family history. He and Jane were avid antique collectors and operated a small antiques business since the 1980s.

Bruce is survived by his three children: David B. and wife Sara of Wayne, PA, Susan P. Glynn and husband John of Camp Hill, PA, and Jonathan N. and wife Diana of Newark; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Many thanks Jon for keeping me informed of the sad news. My husband Xavier died in 2021 here in Paris. Until the end of his life, he never stopped talking about his best friend in the world: Bruce, whom we had met several times near Central Park NYC. Bruce was and always will be the best friend in the world for two French people from Paris.
