Nancy Curry Scott

Nancy Curry Scott passed away peacefully on June 21, 2019 at the Country House in Greenville, DE, her home for the past 5 years. Nancy was born in 1933 to Arva Morris Curry and Allen R. Curry.

Born and raised in the Old Ninth Ward section of Wilmington, Nancy graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1951. She went on to attend the University of Delaware.

She started her career at the Bank of Delaware in 1953. After raising her children, she returned to the bank, then PNC Bank, until retiring in the late 1990’s. She subsequently took a part-time administrative position with Patterson Schwartz Real Estate until her final retirement in 2010.

Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother, always putting her children and grandchildren ahead of everything else. She was her son Gary’s biggest fan and rarely missed a high school or college football game. She was a long-time Girl Scout leader for Susan and Cathy’s troop. She attended concerts, swim meets, sports, and school events for her grandchildren regularly. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and took many road trips to nearby cities/towns for shopping, sightseeing and visiting. She also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Alaska, and for many years she enjoyed an annual trip to St. Croix. Nancy’s happy place was the beach. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends in Ocean City, New Jersey and Rehoboth and Bethany Beaches, Delaware. She also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, playing bridge, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her friends.

She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Nancy was active with the P.S. DuPont Class of 1951 Reunion Committee and enjoyed reconnecting with classmates at various reunions through the years.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her brother Allen R. Curry, Jr. (Rodney). She is survived by her three children, Susan Scott Donahue (Brian), Cathy Scott Holloway (Bill), and Gary A. Scott (Mae). She is also survived by her grandchildren Megan Holloway, Benjamin Holloway, Gary Scott (fiancée, Katherine Rush), Samuel Scott, Lauren Zebley, Brian Donahue, and great-grandson James Powers.

The family sincerely thanks the staff from Wesley Way at the Country House for sharing their love and compassionate affection with Nancy for the past three years, and to the nurses and staff at VITAS Hospice for their supportive and passionate care.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE at 11 o’clock. Friends may call beginning at 9:30.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a tribute donation to the Alzheimer’s Associate Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online at act.alz.org/donate.
