Mildred L. Francis

Mildred L. Francis, age 89, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2024 after a short illness.

Mildred was a devoted wife and caring, loving, and wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Born February 12, 1935, in Como, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Winnie and Clayton Lambert.  Mildred, known as Honey, was from a large family including two sisters and five brothers.  She married Paul G. Francis of Dyess, Arkansas, in June of 1955.  Mildred worked for Bell Telephone as a switch operator to support her husband while he established his engineering career.  They moved several times with the DuPont Company before eventually settling in Wilmington.

She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, shopping, watching sports and reading everything from the Wall Street Journal to Time Magazine to romance novels.  Upon the death of her husband in January of 2015, Mildred moved to the Country House in Greenville and enjoyed making new friends and participating in the activities available.  She will be remembered for her pragmatism, generosity, and dry wit.

Mildred is survived by her three daughters, Debra Reed (husband late John Reed) of Kulpsville, PA, Lisa and husband John Peck of Garnet Valley, PA, Michelle and husband Ed Rand of Sellersville, PA, and six grandchildren, Ellen and Charlotte Reed, Erin and Colleen Peck, and Jack and Cole Rand.
