Michael James Collins

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Michael (Mike) James Collins, 72, of Wilmington, DE on Sunday, May 7, 2023.Mike began his career in data processing which brought him and his family to Pennsylvania. However, his true passion was coaching basketball. He started coaching in the Philadelphia semi-pro circuit, where he coached many teams before creating professional travel teams. His travel teams expanded his reach overseas, where he traveled to Argentina, Columbia, Costa Rica, and Ghana, coaching and sharing his love of basketball.

Mike was a dedicated coach who was passionate about helping his players reach their full potential. He was known for his positive attitude, infectious energy, and unwavering commitment to his players. He believed that basketball was more than just a game; it was an opportunity to teach life skills and build character.

In addition to his coaching career, Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by many immediate and extended family members.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the basketball community. His legacy will live on through the countless players he coached and mentored over the years.
