Matthew D. Mason, III

Matthew D. Mason, III, of New Hope, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was 73.

Matt was born in Charleston, WV, to parents Matthew D. Mason, Jr. and Margaret T. Mason (nee Thayer).

Matt was an accomplished financial advisor and a member of the Delaware Bar Association. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, an avid fisherman, tennis player, golfer, a wonderful cook and loved spending time with his family. Matt was extremely proud of his sons and relished in being a grandfather.

Matt is survived by his sons Matthew Todd Mason (Elena Austin), Stephen Thayer Mason (Annie Rose-Mason), sister Margaret Lynn Fuller (Walter Tuthill), granddaughters Sylvia Mary Rose-Mason and Clara Maxine Rose-Mason, grandniece Meya C. Jones and dear friend Katie Lewin. Matt was predeceased by his parents and nephew Mason Dunn.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 11, 2021 beginning at 12:00pm with services starting at 1:00pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Interment private. Contributions in Matt’s memory may be made to Mid-Atlantic English Springer Spaniel Rescue, Maessr.org.

    Matthew "Big Chief" Mason was one of the most genuine men I've known. We used to sit down and converse for hours about the war, his flowers, and what life was like in the '60s. Rest In Peace, Matt, thanks for the memories.

    I worked with Matt 13 years at Vanguard. He was a good guy and great friend. We shared many a story together golfing here and during our many trips to Hilton Head. Rest in Peace Matt, you will be missed.
