Mary Ann A. Rozsas

Mary Ann A. Rozsas, age 81, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Wilmington Hospital.

Mary Ann was the daughter of the late John W. Rozsas, Jr. and Elizabeth (Kish). She was a graduate of Pottsgrove High School, class of 1960, and later went on to graduate from both Ursinus College and University of Delaware. Mary Ann was very active in several professional organizations in which she held many offices in Alpha Delta Kappa, an international organization of women educators, a charter member of Eta chapter as well as its first president in 1976, and vice president of the Northeast regional from 1993-1995.

She was very active in the areas of Special Education and Reading/Language Arts. For forty years she held a variety of positions at The Pilot School, in Wilmington including Director of Educational Services and Head of the lower division. She believed all children would benefit from an educational program designed to meet their individual learning needs. For example, small classes, dedicated staff, and the use of a variety of teaching strategies were keys to each students learning success.

Through the years, Mary Ann had many fond memories, including going to high school football games, working at the drive-in, taking cooking/baking classes, hiking in the White Mountains and Glacier National Park, sitting at Rehoboth Beach watching the waves roll in, walking the boardwalk, and eating pizza. She also enjoyed attending plays, playing tennis, playing Mahjong, listening to music while decorating her Christmas tree with many lights, and enjoyed watching the Phillies, Eagles, golf, movies on the Hallmark channel, and General Hospital with Joe Mikesell. Mary Ann loved pet-sitting for some very special dogs, cats, and a parrot named Bondi.

Mary Ann is survived by her “sister” cousins Barbara Urban (Thomas Dunmore) and Patricia Urban; her cousins Polly Blackwell and Pamela Varley. To everyone who had a special place in her heart, Mary Ann wants to thank you for all special memories and being a friend.

Mary Ann has requested in her memory for donations to be made to Faithful Friends, 165 Airport Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or www.faithfulfriendsus.com ; or Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Karen Beck Scholarship fund, c/o Nancy F. Bogan 17650-1 Pointer Drive, Lewes, DE 19958 , this provides scholarships for future special educators

What a special lady & friend! We have been blessed with a friendship that bonded us together for 50 years. The phone calls, cards, & emails kept our friendship going even when we weren’t together face-to-face. Mary Ann always took time to send us the first card for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays! She always took time to remember the little moments & times shared. She will always be remembered with love because she touched our hearts & always will. We are so thankful that Mary Ann was such a positive influence in our lives. We’ll especially remember her on her birthday & on each holiday & St. Patrick’s day! LOVE YOU ALWAYS & Forever, dear friend, Bob & Tina
