Marvin Stone

Marvin Stone, age 91, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 after a long and fulfilling life.

Marvin was born in New Rochelle, New York, and after graduating from high school there, he went on to study at Pratt Institute and earned a BFA in Advertising Design. While at Pratt, Marvin met Eve, the love of his life, and after a brief courtship, they married and moved to Wilmington. They soon opened a small mom-and-pop advertising business in downtown Wilmington which they successfully ran until their retirement thirty years later.

During their sixty-seven years of marriage, they had two children, Nancy and Linda (Mark), and two grandchildren, Heather and Alex.

Marvin generously volunteered to share his expertise and talent with hundreds of art students at Osher Lifelong Learning, teaching his very popular Watercolor Painting and Travel Sketching courses. He will be missed by his family and friends. His grandchildren knew him for his stories, patience and twinkling humor.

Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Osher (Ollie) in his memory.

Marvin (and Eve) were the best art instructors and friends we had at OSHER. We both learned so much in class and travels to the Barnes and the Portrait Gallery in DC with them. Marvin’s sense of perspective and travel sketches were amazing. May he rest in peace.

I send all my love to you Marvin and your lovely EVE. May your whole family be comforted to know how much love and respect he garnered at OLLI. Marvin is my biggest influence in my watercolor art. He is also dear to my heart. On Friday I will honor him in my watercolor workshop. I hope to show the PBS tape he and Eve made. I will also distribute a generous gift of watercolor paper he gave to me a few years ago when Patti Morse and I visited Marvin and Eve at their home. I would be honored if you allow me to purchase a painting of Marvin’s. Thank you all for being in his life, JudyWinters

Dearest Eve, my deepest sympathy to your loss. Every Wednesday at Osher, I had the privilege to witness the master at work. With his favorite gadgets projecting his painting in progress on the big screen, I would watch his every stroke and took in his compositions. I was forever looking into his palette to learn his mixing. His big palette was a beautiful painting itself. I was memorized with his exhibitions at JCC and Delaware Art Museum. Finally, I was amazed with and appreciated to Marvin’s beautiful calligraphy for writing every titles of our paintings in our class exhibits every semester. His penmanship was incomparable. I will miss his gentleness and lively conversations forever. Love and hugs, Merle Shao
