Marilyn Garland, age 98, passed away at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, DE on May 5, 2025.
She was born in Haverhill, MA, the daughter of Elgin and Beatrice (Pettengill) Reynolds. After graduation from Atkinson Academy, she attended Melrose Hospital School of Nursing in Melrose, MA. The day after graduating from nursing school, she married Charlie Garland and her first job was as a nurse at Colby College, which he was attending. Later she has jobs as nurse at Exeter Hospital in Exeter, NH, nurse at Delaware Hospital, Director of Nursing at Club Haven Nursing Home, and eventually returning to the Delaware Hospital as night supervisor.
Marilyn was a member of the Timberlane Garden Club and a trustee of the Lombardy Foundation. Her other interests were ballroom dancing, square dancing, traveling, gardening, needlework, and sculpturing. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new recipes.
Her husband of sixty years, Charles Garland, passed away on September 3, 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy, three grandchildren: Lindsey (Carmen), Stephanie, and Brett (Lauren). Additionally, Marilyn had nine great-grandchildren: Braydon, Camryn, Payton, Carson, Jordan, Gavin, Juliette, Luke, and Connor.
Marilyn lived life to the fullest, was always dressed to the nines, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all, but the fond memories will continue on. The family is certain her beloved husband Charlie will be waiting (with a book in hand) for her arrival to heaven and they will continue their dance through eternity.
