Marco Lombardo, son of Carmela and Mario Lombardo, passed away on June 16th, 2019 at the age of 30. His passing was unexpected and was due to a complication of an underlying medical condition. He is survived by his father Mario, brother Giuseppe, sister Anna, and his nephew Benjamin. He is reunited with his mother Carmela and brother Vincenzo.
Marco was a kind and genuine person who enjoyed connecting with those around him. As the youngest of four children, he brought a great deal of joy, affection, and energy to his family. He truly valued his relationships, remaining very close with his family and building friendships in his youth that would last throughout his life. He was born and raised in Delaware but remained deeply rooted in his Italian and Venezuelan heritage, spending many summers in Italy with his family.
Marco graduated from Concord High School. He attended Temple and the University of Delaware with a major in Biology. During his studies, he decided to pursue a doctorate in pharmacy, a career which would allow him to blend his interest in science and medicine with his desire to help others. He completed his PharmD at Jefferson University in 2016. After working as a bilingual patient advocate at Puentes de Salud in Philadelphia and then as a hospital pharmacy intern, he was hired as a permanent member of the clinical pharmacy team at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
He took great pride in his work and was passionate about his vocation. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues as a truly dedicated pediatric pharmacist who went out of his way to support others and provide outstanding services for the children in his care. He was known for his warm and generous nature, commitment to continual professional development, and love of teaching. His personal experiences gave him a special awareness of the difficulties that sick children face, and he felt a calling to do whatever he could to make their lives better.
Marco was curious about the world around him and was eager to share his interests with others. He was particularly passionate about music, with eclectic and far-reaching tastes that were reflected in his record collection and impressive musical knowledge. He enthusiastically shared this passion with those around him and many who were close to him discovered favorite artists and songs because of him. The music he loved and appreciated remains a reminder of the joy and meaning he found in it.
Marco was a compassionate, intelligent, and creative young man. He was and always will be a blessing in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His smile, sense of humor, and the sound of his laugh will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
