Madhuben “Madhu” Jashbhai Patel, lovingly known as Kalpana to her family and friends, passed away peacefully at home in Wilmington, Delaware, on June 12, 2026, at the age of 80.
Formerly of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, generosity, and devotion to family. Madhu was born in 1946, to Somabhai and Gangaben. From an early age, she embodied determination and resilience. She was a strong and independent woman who believed that education, hard work, and perseverance could overcome any obstacle. Throughout her life, she faced challenges with courage and grace, setting goals for herself and working tirelessly to achieve them. Madhu earned her Master’s Degree in Commerce in Indore, India, and began her career as a teacher, sharing her love of learning and especially her passion for mathematics. Her journey later took her to Kenya, where she worked in finance and bookkeeping. After immigrating to the United States and making New Jersey her home, she continued to build a life for her family while working in the Hospitality industry.
While her accomplishments were many, her greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jashbhai I. Patel. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Krupa (Ketan) and Ashish, and by her cherished grandchildren, Dhruv, Serena, and Obi, who were the light of her life. Madhu had many talents and passions. She loved cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Her hands were rarely still, always creating something beautiful or caring for someone she loved. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and everyone knew they would be welcomed with a warm meal, a full plate, and even warmer hospitality. Feeding others was one of her greatest expressions of love. She believed deeply in community and helping others. Whether someone needed assistance finding a job, a place to stay, guidance during a difficult time, or simply a home-cooked meal, Madhu never hesitated to help. She gave generously without expecting anything in return and touched countless lives through her kindness and compassion. To many, she was more than a mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor, or friend. She was a source of wisdom, comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her presence brought people together, and her home was a place where everyone felt welcomed and cared for. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and in the values she instilled in all of us: faith, perseverance, generosity, hospitality, and love for family above all else.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support children’s literacy and education in India. Contributions can be made in memory of Madhu to Pratham USA via our dedicated memorial page https://give.prathamusa.org/fundraiser/7356994
The Patel family humbly requests your prayers for the eternal peace of her soul.
Om Shanti.
