Lorraine C. Thalheimer

Alice Lorraine Cooling Thalheimer passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born in Wilmington in 1933 to Burchall Lackland Cooling and Alice Mae Steele Cooling. She grew up in Wilmington and married Robert Thalheimer in 1952. Her son Glenn was born in 1953. After successfully battling alcoholism, she earned a certificate in counseling and worked for TRIAD in Wilmington for many years, helping others combat their addictions. She was proud to celebrate 50 years of sobriety last year.

Lorraine had a lifelong passion for animals. She had a horse as a girl, and there were always multiple dogs, cats, and other pets in her house. She fed the birds, squirrels, raccoons, and foxes daily. She nursed countless injured animals back to health.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Virginia Bazela and Jean Nichols, her brother Burchall, her husband Bob, and her son Glenn. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, Anne-Noelle, Nicholas, and Andres, two great-grandchildren, Royce and Mila, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution to the SPCA, Forgotten Cats, the Humane Society, or another animal rescue organization.

    Dear family members, I have had the privilge of knowing Lorraine as a compassionate, courageous and wise friend over many years. When in her presence you had her full attention. She taught me and her son Bruce about the wonders of natural healing. She lived a full life and her legacy will remain in my hearts and deeds. I will think of her when I observe the lavende blowing in the wind in my garden. I hope that the many wonderful memories will provide some solace.
