Laura C. Nicholson

Laura C. Nicholson passed away on February 15th, 2026 at Wilmington Hospital.

Born in Augusta, GA in June 1953, she was the daughter of Carlton K. and Nancy C. Nicholson.

Until she was 10, Laura lived in Aiken, South Carolina along with her three brothers, Bill, Peter and Andrew. Her dad worked for DuPont while mom stayed home to take care of the four children. DuPont transferred the family to Wilmington, DE in 1963 where Laura attended A.I. DuPont Elementary and Springer Junior High. The Family was then transferred to Palatine, IL in 1966, where Laura attended Winston Park Junior High and then Palatine High School until her senior year when the family was transferred back to Wilmington. She graduated from Concord High School in 1971 before attending the University of Delaware for two years. While at the University, Laura took AG courses and thoroughly loved taking care of the animals on the farm at the University. Laura was a huge animal lover and continued to own dogs and cats throughout her life. After her two years at the University, Laura decided to explore other avenues and became the manager of Little Heel, a boutique clothing store in the Concord Mall. After that she explored the Food Service industry and worked at Seasons Change and Crepe Chalet until meeting her future husband Mark Picciotti, of Picciotti’s restaurant in Wilmington, DE.

She married Mark in 1989 and between the two of them, they ran the restaurant until their divorce in 1996. In 1996 she moved to Newark, DE and purchased a new townhouse in the development of Riverwalk and lived there for the next 27 years. After Picciotti’s, she managed a food catering business for a number of years until she decided a medical career was next for her. After getting a Medical Assistant certification she worked at a doctor’s office in Bear, DE for quite a while until deciding to retire around 2005. After her Medical Assistant career, Laura dedicated her time to taking care of animals, as that was her true passion as was evident with the giving of her time and money towards their comfort and survival.

In Laura’s free time she enjoyed spending time in Cape May, NJ on the beach. She would travel to Tampa, Florida to spend time there with her Grandmother. She would vacation up in Buffalo, NY while visiting relatives. She traveled to Mexico once to see another country and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. She even headed to Idaho one time to visit her brother to enjoy Mother Nature at its best. In her 30’s she would go fishing out on the Delaware Bay, catch some fish, clean the fish and cook them when she got home. She was not afraid to get her hands dirty. May she rest in peace.

Laura was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Peter and Andrew. She is survived by her brother Bill and the love of his life Barb, along with her nephew Will (Nick) and his wife Amanda, with their two children, William and Kennedy. She is also survived by her Uncle Dan Clark, her cousins Becky, Larry and Paul of East Aurora, NY.

There will be a private interment for the family at Lower Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church memorial fund, 1120 Darley Road, Wilmington, DE 19810, in memory of Laura Nicholson.
