Kathryne Schulz Mitchell

Kathryne (Kathy) Schulz Mitchell passed away on November 1, 2023, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Mitchell; children, Tom (Cathy), Debbie, Jim (Janet), and John (Amy); their grandchildren, Holliann (James), Timothy (Zoe), Angela (Veeshal), Rebecca, Michael (Miranda), Chrisalyn, Nicole, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Colby, Calla, Milo, and Dev; brother-in-law, Tim; and nephews, Andrew (Tanya) and Daniel (Dezarae). She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Marion Schulz; and her sisters, Carol and Barbara.

Kathy graduated from Conrad High School in 1955 and went on to attend 3 years at the University of Delaware. She later attained her associate degree from Delaware Technical Community College.

Kathy resided in Hockessin, DE. Throughout her life, she served as an administrative assistant at Cokesbury Village, treasurer for Hockessin Friends Preschool, and caseworker at a local mental health program. She was a longtime member and choir member at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Wilmington, was active in 4-H as both a member and a club leader, served on the Board of the Friends Home in Kennett Square, and enjoyed helping with Garden Day in Wilmington.

Outside of her work and service, she regularly spent time with her friends and longtime Game Group, and her greatest devotion in life was her family. Kathy and Joseph were married in 1958 and spent 65 years just as in love as the day they met. Throughout the years, Kathy kept her family together with love in every role as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
