Joyce Elene Jack

Our dear Joyce Elene (House) Jack departed this earth on November 23, 2022 at the ripe old age of 93.

Joyce was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1929. She attained her Laboratory Technician certification in the early 1950’s from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. In 1956, she traveled down to Delaware to work at the Memorial Hospital as a Lab Technician, a job she maintained through management changes of Christiana Medical, retiring after 35+ years. It was a matter of blocks from the hospital where she met her husband George Jack of Winterthur. They were married 54 years and raised three sons.

Joyce made sure all three boys were active in playing sports, especially son Jordi who participated in many Special Olympics events. Joyce was very artistic. She did wood carving, knitting, needle point, furniture restoration, and gardening. Her annual trip home for the summer to the family bungalow in Cape Brenton, NS was her happiest of times. She continued her annual visit with George after the children were grown, staying for longer periods of time. She and George enjoyed antiqueing, bargains, and music in the park.

Joyce had a great sense of humor and was sure to entertain with stories of her youth that seemingly went on forever. She was spirited and always ready to have a good time. She was a hardcore ice skater and hockey player, Canadian through and through. Joyce became a citizen of the United States in 1989. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Billy and Marie (MacDonald) House, Sydney, Nova Scotia, as well as her husband George B. Jack, Jr and son Jordi M. Jack.

Survived by her sons Billy Jack (Dana Glogovsky), Summit County, CO, and Shawn (Joan) Jack of Talleyville, DE. Most importantly, she leaves behind her beloved doggie Murphy who has been her protector and best friend, always by her side for the past 10 years.

    Karen Brinker writes,
I started my medical laboratory career with Christiana Care in the mid 80's and remember working with Joyce. She always had a story and loved talking about her boys. So sorry for your loss.
