I was one of Mr.Cogan's Latin students in Middletown, N.J. High School. His class was one of my favorites. I was a freshman at that time. The year was 1961-62. I am glad he had a long and prosperous life. My condolences to the Cogan family. Today's date is August 12, 2022. He was a wonderful teacher.

Lin (née: Broch) Downs lit a candle and writes,
I too was one of Mr. Cogan’s first year Latin students at Middletown Twp. High School from 1961 - 1962. It was a life-changing experience in more ways than one. To begin with, I went on to be the only student in my high school who took Latin for all 4 years, and my love for Latin continues to this day. Secondly, even though he left seminary, his love for the church and its sacraments stayed with him, and he truly lived his faith. Eventually, the effect he had on me led me to convert to Catholicism, as I couldn’t find what I sought in any other religion. I will never forget my first high mass at St. Mary’s RC Church on Christmas Eve 1961. Mr. Cogan was the first person I asked to write a college recommendation for me, as his opinion of me was so important. To be honest, he was my first crush, and I walked miles in the snow one night to slip an anonymous card into his home mailbox on Valentines Day! RIP, Mr. Cogan! You were the best, and I hope I never let you down!
