John E. Tomlinson, Jr.

John Ellis Tomlinson, age 95, passed away on March 15, 2024. Born in Wilmington, John was a resident of Wilmington until moving to Michigan in 2016.  He was the son of the late John Ellis Tomlinson, Sr. and Ethel MacDonald Tomlinson of Delaware. He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and retired from the Dupont Company in 1985 after 39 years of service. John served in the Naval Reserve for five years.

John was predeceased by his parents, his sister Jean Selway and brothers William and Thomas. He is survived by his children Helen (Scott) and John (Cindy), Grandchildren Brett (Abby), Katie (Brian), Stephen (April), Justin (Natalia) and Christopher.  He so enjoyed watching, listening, and playing with his Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchild, Jared, Alexia, Kellan, Charlie, Dalaney, Scarlett, Heidi, Gwen, Milana, Jackson, and Levi.

Until moving to Michigan, John and Gerry were very active members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. They enjoyed many years of church fellowship, making lifelong friends and memories.  They loved to dance and enjoyed many Saturday night dances at the DuPont Country Club and Sunnybrook Ballroom in their younger years. They enjoyed many summer vacations in Ocean City, NJ and spent 19 summers at their home in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Independence Village of White Lake and the Corso Care Hospice staff that so tenderly cared for John. Our “earth angels” Donna and Laura and their staffs will forever be in our prayers. We will always carry your thoughtfulness in our hearts.

Funeral Services

To honor the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to please privately celebrate John’s life.

Condolences

    Ed Crumlish writes,
Helen and Jack, I am sorry to read that your dad has passed. I first met your mom and dad (shortly after meeting you both) in the summer of 1975. They were kind and loving people who warmly embraced your friends, making them feel welcome whenever we were in their company. Your dad lead a rich and full life. Many people are fortunate enough to be in the lives of their grandchildren. To be able to see great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild is truly a blessing. You and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.
