JoAnn Catherine Vanderslice

JoAnn Catherine Vanderslice (nee Hoopes), Capital “J” – Capital “A” – and No “E”, age 79, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

A long-time resident of South Philly, JoAnn eventually moved to spend her golden years in Wilmington, DE. She is remembered, loved and survived by her husband of 42 years, Edward P. Vanderslice, children Eddie(Leah), Cheryl, Susan(Ron), Richard and Michelle(Robert)as well as 4 grandchildren, Nick, Samantha (Steve), Emily and Olivia. Preceded in death by daughter, Kathy and son-in-law, Bruce.

JoAnn left us to visit that big diner in the sky, most likely already asking about today’s special. We are sure she is doing the half sandwich/half soup meal with Kathy and you can bet she has her cherished pups, Pepper Puss and Peanut at her feet where they will get their own special plate. Let’s be honest, they are probably sitting at the table too!
In her 79 years, JoAnn taught her friends and family many things. Being the master pizzelle and meatball maker, she taught us that you don’t always use measuring cups, it was a pinch, a splash or a handful of whatever ingredient came next on the recipe. We learned to cherish Sunday dinners and holiday get-togethers because family comes first. Organized to a fault, she loved her steno pads and would have a list for everything.

JoAnn could be a force to be reckoned with. She didn’t always take no for an answer and she usually got her way. She loved spending summers at the campground, weekends in Wildwood, going out for daily car rides and hunting for garage sales. Let’s not forget coffee with the girls, crocheting and a good romance novel.

The next time you hear Moonlight Serenade remember her with a smile on your face and that song in your heart.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite animal rescue or shelter.
