Joan M. Carson

Joan Marie Moore Carson, age 84, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas, of 52 years.

Joan was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1939, daughter of the late Edward & Agnes Moore. Her brother Patrick Moore preceded her in death.

She is survived by her three daughters Trish Ello (Mark) of Leesburg, VA, Beth Carson of West Chester, PA, and Colleen Carson (Rustyn Stoops) of Wilmington, DE. Joan was a proud grandmother to her seven grandchildren Meghan, Kasey, Kiley, Haley (Chris), Carson, Emma, and Thomas. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Moore (Mary) of Wilkes-Barre, PA, as well as nieces and nephews.

Joan was a caring and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her love and caring for her family and friends were her focus and in so many ways she was able to show that to us with her warmth, kind soul, and gentle spirit.

Joan graduated from Coughlin High School and Wyoming Valley Hospital School of Nursing where she received the Alumni Award for maintaining the highest scholastic average. She started her nursing career at Princeton Hospital, Princeton NJ. She then ventured to Miami, Florida before returning to Wilkes-Barre to work for the Red Cross Blood Bank where she traveled across Pennsylvania with their mobile unit. Once married, she began working at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, DE, before raising her three daughters. Joan then ventured into the business world alongside her husband, owning and operating an office supply business for a short time before returning to nursing, joining the family practice of Dr. Morgan.

After retiring, Joan enjoyed many classes at the Lifelong Learning Institute and during this time found her way back to the game of bridge. She became an avid player who enjoyed playing several times a week and even more so the friendships she gained through her bridge-playing days.

Joan enjoyed dining out, shopping and traveling. She had many opportunities to travel both domestically and internationally. Some of her favorite memories include trips to California, Ireland, a Viking Cruise in Europe, an Alaskan Cruise, Hilton Head, Florida, and a 50th anniversary trip with Tom to their original honeymoon location in Quebec City.

One of Joan’s most cherished roles was that of being “Mom Mom” to her seven “favorite” grandchildren. Joan took great pleasure in participating in her grandchildren’s lives and was blessed to be able to share in so many cherished moments.

Joan was also a woman of deep faith, her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and giving her strength. She was the light of our lives, and though that light has dimmed in this world, it will forever shine bright in our hearts.
