Jeanne R. Lingg

Jeanne Adele Rohana Lingg, 92, of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully at the Kutz Home on Monday, March 29, 2021.

The daughter of John Joseph Rohana and Louise Valentine Simon, she was the eldest in her generation of extended family that included her brother and 35 first cousins. Jeanne loved to sing and possessed a marvelously strong, rich, operatic voice that brought joy to family, friends, and neighbors. She sang with the John Bartram High School A Capella Choir and was a long-time member of the St. Mary Magdalen Church choir.

Jeanne graduated from Bartram in 1947 and took a job at General Electric on Elmwood Avenue where she met Bill Lingg. They enjoyed a devoted 67-year marriage and formed a strong, loving family after adopting daughters Linda and Carole. After retiring from A. I. DuPont School District Jeanne spent time at the shore, sightseeing, travelling, reading, walking, doing needlepoint and hanging out with family and friends. During her time at the Kutz Home Jeanne enjoyed social activities and met many wonderful new friends amongst the staff and residents.

Jeanne’s joyful sense of humor, perpetually optimistic outlook and Devotion to God provided a buffer against life’s many challenges. She was truly a generous, lovable soul whose combination of endearing quirks and astounding courage enriched the lives of those who knew her.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Linda Jeanne Lingg, son-in-law, Wayne Bennett, grandsons Joseph and Christopher Bennett, of Palo Alto, CA, son-in-law, Darrin Hardin, and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Lingg, her daughter, Carole Lingg Harden and her brother, John A. Rohana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kutz Home, 704 River Road, Wilmington, DE 19809.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Monday April 5, 2021 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Interment will be private at Arlington Cemetery, Upper Darby, PA.

Condolences

    Cathy Codding writes,
Thinking of Jeanne's family as they begin to process the loss of their loved one. I'm grateful to have met her approximately ten years ago while I was out for a walk with my then 2-year-old grandson (me pulling him in his wagon). She happened to be waiting for Bill to pull their car out of the garage. I spied her sitting in her wheelchair and thought to myself that she'd probably like to meet my grandson. Ha! And, from there, we formed a friendship. I shall miss her sweetness. Sending Light, Love, and Hugs! Cathy
