Jean Pierle Colbert

Jean Pierle was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati. She received her Master’s Degree in Biology at the University of Wisconsin, where she met her husband, George Colbert.

She spent many years as a homemaker, raising their three children as they moved from Louisville KY to Wilmington DE, Londonderry Northern Ireland, and back to Wilmington. In 2010, she moved to the Maris Grove community in Glen Mills, PA.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was active in many civic activities over the years. She was an honorary life member of the League of Women Voters and spent many years volunteering in Scouting, both Girl and Boy Scouts. Throughout her life, she was very involved in the life of the Episcopal Church.

In the 1980s, Jean returned to school and earned an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming. She worked as a programmer for several years and helped write a program with her husband George, a retired Chemist from DuPont. The two of them travelled internationally for recreation and with his consulting work.

In later years they were both active volunteers with the Mary Campbell Center and Faith and Light, as well as the Ulster Project.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, George (2006) and daughter, Dr. Joyce Colbert DVM (2007). She is survived by her son, The Rev.
