Jean M. Roop

Jean Marie Roop, age 82, of Wilmington, DE., formerly of Lewes, DE., passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at her home.

Jean was born in Wilmington, one of eleven children of the late Anthony A. and Maria G. D’Amico Padovani. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Wilmington in 1948. Jean worked as a textile machine operator for the Exeter Hosiery Mill in Wilmington, DE until 1970 and then as a textile machine operator and secretary for the National Vulcanized Fiber Company in Wilmington until 1992.

In retirement, Jean participated in several community organizations in Lewes, DE such as First Town Club, Lewes in Bloom and Overfalls Foundation. She also took great pride in her garden in Lewes. Jean loved cooking and baking for family and friends especially for the traditional Sunday night dinner.

Jean is predeceased by her husband, Albert Joseph Roop III, siblings; Matilda (Tillie), Henry Rudolph, Anthony (Tony) Padovani, and Adele O. Padovani Kempski. She is survived by her son Albert (Jay) and his wife Kim, Grandson, A.J. and his wife Meghan Nicole, Granddaughter Meghan Elizabeth and her husband Greg, Great-grandchildren; Dylan, Tripp, Chase and Reece, Siblings; Guido, Ernest and Victor Padovani, Mary Szymanski, Josephine High and Alice M. (Padovani-Pasquale) Kaczorowski .She is also survived by her granddog and constant companion, Koal.

A Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. A Visitation will be held 1 hour prior at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewes, DE.

Funeral Services

A Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.

A Visitation will be held 1 hour prior at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

Interment will be private at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewes, DE.
