Janet Snelling Rucker

Janet Snelling Rucker, age 87 of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday the 31st of December 2019 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jan was born in Macon, Georgia in July 1932. A true Georgia Peach, she lived and loved Wilmington. Jan was strong lady and a fighter with the heart of a lion but carried herself with grace and style throughout her life.

Jan was predeceased by her husband Richard C. Rucker and her three sisters Betty, Lucy and Flossie. She will be forever remembered and loved by her two daughters Fran and Jessica, her three grandchildren Hunter, Lindsey and Sophia who knew her as “Nana-Pop” and her two nephews Kirk and Johnny Rucker.

Jan was an avid fan of all sporting events and rarely missed a game that her children and/or grandchildren competed in. Her favorite teams included the Duke Blue Devils and the Philadelphia Eagles. Jan never met a piece of chocolate that she didn’t like. She was a classy lady known for her outfits, her gorgeous hair and she leaves behind quite a large shoe collection.

Jan was blessed to have dear lifelong friends in Atlanta, Georgia and in Wilmington and the family so appreciates the love and support of all of these wonderful people.

Services will be private, family only, but respects can be paid at the Friendship Garden at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington where her ashes will be placed joining her husband Richard. A Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held in the Spring where the family looks forward to celebrating Jan’s life with her friends and loved ones.

Condolences

Richard Laird lit a candle and writes,
Fran-I was so sorry to hear about your beautiful Mom. I truly thought that she was one of the most enjoyable people that I have ever worked with. She had a wonderful and often disarming sense of humor. I always looked forward to when we were scheduled to work together at The Furniture Exchange on a Saturday. We always had a wonderful time together. I will always be grateful for the confidence that she instilled in me. She was both a beautiful and gracious woman who made coming to work enjoyable. I especially enjoyed our trips in search of furniture to areas in Philadelphia that would terrify most. She was always ready for an adventure.

    Sandy Idstein writes,
I just read the paper and learned about Janet's passing. Janet truly was a lovely lady; she was warm and kind, and our interactions were always friendly. Janet possessed a positive personality, which came through in her warm smile and gracious manner. Because I knew Janet through interactions with Jessica, I know Janet was a great mom. She raised Jessica to be strong woman in her image. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Rucker family. Peace. Sandy Idstein
