James Scott Denham, III

James Scott Denham, III, age 94, of Wilmington, DE passed away at home on November 29, 2022.

Jim was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Susanne Speakman Denham and William Bailey Denham. He attended Tower Hill School and graduated from Westminster School in Simsbury Connecticut in 1947, where he served as Head Prefect his Sixth Form Year. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1951, Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

The great grandson of the founder of Speakman Company, Allen Speakman, Jim began his career with the Speakman Company in 1956, retiring in 1998 as Vice President.

An avid outdoorsman and gifted golfer, Jim was a member of Pine Valley Golf Club, Vicmead Hunt Club, and Bidermann Golf Club. Golf was his passion, and he and his brother Sonny were formidable partners.

He is survived by his wife of 62 year, Elizabeth Foales Denham, son James S. Denham, IV (Jennifer) of Greenville Delaware; daughter Reeves Denham Jones (Dan) of Madison, Georgia; four grandchildren Taylor Denham Shanosky (Todd), James Cody Denham, William Robert Jones, and James Denham Jones, brother Willard Allen Speakman Denham, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William Bailey Denham, Jr., and sister Susanne Denham Singer.

A reception will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 3:30PM at the Vicmead Hunt Club, 903 Owls Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware, 669 S. Union St., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Funeral Services

A reception will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 3:30PM at the Vicmead Hunt Club, 903 Owls Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. Interment will be private.
