Jack Robert Bulk, 24, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away suddenly on January 17, 2023.
He was a 2016 graduate of Wilmington Friends School (WFS), where he was a “lifer.” WFS afforded him the life-changing opportunity to do a junior year abroad in France with School Year Abroad (SYA). Where his Quaker education grounded him in critical thinking, community service, and meaningful friendships, his SYA experience gave him a taste for all that the world may offer. His decision to attend New York University in Abu Dhabi was a logical choice. He earned a BA in Economics/ Finance in 2020. While in the Middle East Jack forged close friendships with fellow students from all over the world, particularly his best mate from Australia. His adventures took him to India, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Oman, and numerous other countries. One of his favorite things to do in Abu Dhabi was camp in the desert with his Emirati friends.
Upon his return to the US during the pandemic he decided to work as a classroom facilitator at Wilmington Friends School. This led him to confirm his love for working with children. He served as a middle school Math teacher at Stem Civics Charter Academy in Trenton, NJ. He worked hard to minimize pandemic learning loss and to instill good citizenship and a love of learning in his students.
Scouting was an important part of Jack’s life, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 29 in Hockessin. He served many leadership roles, often working to educate the younger troops in Scout craft, and foreshadowing his profession as a teacher. Thanks to Troop 29 he relished high adventure trips to Philmont Ranch, NM, Adirondak high peaks, and long wilderness canoe trips.
Friends and family remember his affable nature, kindness, quick wit, and brilliant smile. He truly took to heart the importance of being trustworthy and true to oneself. He was a loyal friend, and a loving son and brother.
He is survived by his mother, Bradey Bulk, brother Toby, grandmother Terrie, uncle Max (Houston, TX) and his wife Heather, cousins Emma and Will, and Augie Doggie, and best friend Ryan Wood and the Wood family.
