Henry “Hank” M. Black Jr.

Henry M. Black, Jr., aged 80, of Wilmington, DE passed away at home on April 15, 2026. He was born in Memphis, TN to Henry and Virginia (Sutherland) Black, who predeceased him.

Hank, as he was known, grew up in Wilmington, attended Brandywine High School, and was a graduate of the Pennington School in Pennington, NJ. He later graduated from the Quaker City School of Aeronautics in Philadelphia, PA.   He was the owner and operator of many successful businesses in the last sixty years, a true entrepreneur. His current one will be carried on by his son, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou (Johnson) Black; his children, Sharon Buchta (Ray), and Scott Black, both of Wilmington, DE; his sisters, Margaret Black (Jim Grizzle) and Virginia Black; his brother-in-law, Rick Johnson (Larisa Looby); his sister-in-law, Carol Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins  and their families. He found his greatest joy in life surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren who survive him: Charles, George and Kate.

Funeral Services

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, at 12:00pm at the Chandler Funeral Home at 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 with visitation beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Henry’s memory to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.

    We met Hank thru Punkin Chunkin as he and his crew would make the DVDS of all the teams that competed in Delaware.
