Harshad Ramchrandra Dodia, age 81, of Media, Pennsylvania, formerly of Kennett Square, died on January 16th 2022.
Harshad was born in Shikarpur, Pakistan (formerly United India). He graduated from Modern High School in Mumbai and then completed his undergraduate at Elphinstone College and his mechanical engineering training Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI). He then immigrated to the United States; and completed his master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and another master’s degree in industrial engineering at NYU.
His first job was at the Curtiss-Wright Corporation, where he worked on the development of hypersonic jet engines. He then took a job at DuPont where he stayed until his retirement. At DuPont his work ranged from plant maintenance to world-wide marketing of aramid fibers, Nomex and Kevlar.
He was an active member of Rotary International, including as the president of the Kennett Square Club. His focus was on school literacy, land preservation, clean water, improving peri-natal and pediatric care locally. He was most proud the Rotary’s work to eradicate polio, PolioPlus. It was also at the Rotary Club he met Eleanor Slyver.
Harshad is survived by his long-term partner and love, Eleanor Sylver, son Vishal Dodia and his wife Gloria Dodia, sister in-law, Jessica Dodia, niece Ruta Mayekar and her husband Ulhas Mayekar, his Grandchildren Alexandra, William and Maximilian Dodia, and grandnieces Sonal and Komal Mayekar.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 19th at 10:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, Delaware. In lieu of flowers please donate to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601
