Dr. Gregory M. Greene

Dr. Gregory M. Greene of Greenville, Delaware, passed away at his home with his wife by his side on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Greg was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of Charles E. and Sandra Greene of Rotterdam, NY. He was predeceased by his mother, Sandra Greene of Rotterdam, NY. He is survived by wife Paula Janssen of Greenville, DE, and his father Charles E. Greene Jr. of Rotterdam, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Kim Niemoeller of Landenberg, PA, and his nieces Brianna and Heather Niemoeller of Landenberg, PA.

He participated in Boy Scouts and Little League as a youth. Greg attended school in Rotterdam, graduating from Mohonasen High School in 1992. He then attended the University of Delaware, graduating in 1996 with a B.S. degree with distinction in Animal Science. The next year, he participated in a summer and winter internship at Wolf Park in Indiana. He assisted in raising wolf pups as well as caring for the wolf pack and other animals. After Wolf Park, Greg attended the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2001 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

After attending a six-month internship in Connecticut, Greg worked as a veterinarian at various locations in Delaware. It was at this time that he met his wife-to-be Paula Janssen of Greenville, DE. After a multi-year courtship and engagement, they were married in the Bahamas on June 3, 2011.

Greg was a kind and gentle man who would give help to anyone and everyone, especially the love of his life, Paula. He loved his work as a veterinarian and was always on the floor with his furry clients at Brandywine Veterinary Hospital giving them the best care and love.  He loved and cared for all living creatures from puppies and cats to the bee swarms he loved to catch.

Greg was a member of the Delaware Veterinary Medical Association, Delaware Beekeepers, Delaware Geocachers and Vicmead Hunt Club.  Greg and Paula enjoyed international adventures including Europe, Turkey, Vietnam, Cambodia, Ecuador, Belize, Bahamas and Mexico. Together, they loved to snowboard and ski, scuba dive, snorkel, geocache and trapshoot.

I was shocked and saddened to read about Greg from his Facebook page. I knew Greg from his time at Wolfpark. We were interns there together. I have lovely memories of my time there and Greg was part of that. I followed his career from Facebook and was happy when he became a veterinarian. Although we did not have contact I still thought of him and our time at Wolfpark often. To his friends and family please accept my condolences. I hope to go through my photos at some point and I am sure I will find some of Greg. Thinking of you all at this time. Lisa Wallis

I knew Greg in Vet School, and though it was only four years, classmates spent a lot of time together back then. Seventy of us spent pretty much 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week with one another for four years. He was genuinely a good guy. I remember him as a positive and upbeat person, and he got along with everyone. Reading about his life and career after school, it is wonderful to see that he enjoyed his life and fulfilled his dreams. I'm sure he made his little corner of the world a better place. It's a tragedy that he is gone too soon. My deepest condolences to his wife and family, his staff and coworkers, and everyone who will miss him dearly.

Bill Rusch lit a candle and writes,
I remember one summer afternoon on a visit to see Greg's older sister Kim, Greg challenged me to a game of Stratego. I was familiar with the game and agreed even though I thought it was an unfair match and a 9 year old didn't have a chance of beating someone in college. I got creamed of course, but he was modest enough not to spike the ball in the end zone. My thoughts and prayers go out to Paula and Kim and their family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Greg's passing. My heart goes out to his wife Paula, sister Kim snd dad Charlie. Greg was my student at Mohonasrn when I was a new school counselor. I remember Greg and his buddies loved making homemade horror films while in high school, which I enjoyed watching. Greg stayed in touch over the years and I was looking forward to our next catch up. The mug he brought me from Wolf Park is quite faded now but I will cherish it all the more as a lasting memory of Greg.

Paula: We are so very saddened about Greg's passing. He was the kindest, most capable and compassionate man. We loved him and cherished our friendship with him. We have so many wonderful memories of all of our times together from Malibu to Biderman to the veterinary office. He had a gift from God with pets. The first time we met Greg we were so shocked and thrilled that he sat on the floor when he examined our dogs. Our dogs adored him. Words fall short of expressing how sad we are for you, your parents, his Father, sister, niece and nephews. Please know that we are sending you love.

Gleela and I will always remember my cousin Greg as a kind, gentle, caring and quiet person. Greg used to raise rabbits while growing up at his home in Rotterdam, which led to a fulfilling career as a veterinarian. Uncle Charlie's description of Greg making house calls and treating all his patients as special does not surprise us. After all, that was Greg. He will be missed by all. Jan & Gleela Kolakowski
