Franklin “Frank” T. Varone

Franklin T. Varone, 83, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in 1942, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Frank was the son of Frank and Anna (Cirulli) Varone.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Concetta “Connie” Lombardo.

Frank graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School, Cornwall-on-Hudson Military School, Valley Forge Military Academy, and Goldey-Beacom College.  During his time at Goldey-Beacom, he worked part-time in the evenings.  With Uffelman Painting, he was responsible for making sales calls by phone, using listings from the local phone book.  He also worked at Murray’s Clothing Store at the Merchandise Mart where he developed his natural talent for sales by assisting customers with shirts, ties, and cuff links to accessorize their suit purchases.

From these humble beginnings, Frank built a distinguished career in insurance and investments that spanned nearly 60 years.  He began with Continental American Life Insurance Company and later worked with Rockwell Associates and Nationwide Insurance.  Most recently, he was affiliated with Dan White and Associates.  Throughout his career, Frank was recognized with numerous awards, and he was a proud member of the Million Dollar Round Table.

He was an active member of Societa da Vinci, Inc. and the Men of Malvern 6–3 Retreat Group, generously contributing his time, talent, leadership, and dedication to both organizations.  Frank cherished the friends he made within these groups.

Frank had a lifelong passion for automobiles and regularly attended auto auctions, buying and selling cars for himself and others.  He maintained an extensive model car collection, proudly displayed in his office.  Fitness remained an important part of his life—from playing racquetball in his younger years to maintaining a regular workout routine later in life, most recently at Beyond 50, where he was warmly greeted as “Maserati Frank.”  He especially enjoyed socializing with friends, meeting new people, traveling, fine food, shopping, stylish shoes, and Manhattan cocktails.

A devoted and practicing Catholic, Frank attended the churches of St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Ann’s, Sacred Heart, and The Priory.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Winner; his children, Sue Varone (Paul Talley), Sherry Varone (David), and Mark Varone (Lisa); grandchildren, Christopher Talley, Joshua Talley (Marissa), Jordan Talley, Taylor Kay (David), Kylie DeGhetto (Matt), Annabella Varone (Shane); Ryan Monroe (Kaitlyn); great-grandchildren, Norah Kay, Bruce Kay and Max Talley.

I met Frank Years ago as a member of the Societa' da Vinci. We enjoyed many laughs together for so many years. He was an integral part of the membership and accomplished so many of the things that our Mission represented. He was very generous and always spoke about his family with love. Our company also did business with Frank's insurance agency because of our trust in Frank's integrity. We would talk on a weekly basis. I will certainly miss Frank. Thoughts and prayers for Connie and the entire Varone Family. RIP Frank.

Kiersten DeFluri lit a candle and writes,
Frank had a way of lighting up every room he walked into. He was bright, energetic, and genuinely kind. My husband and I feel so blessed to have known him. I had the pleasure of working with Frank for a little over 7 years, and working with him was always such a blast. Whenever he came into the office, he always brought smiles and a positive attitude with him. I’ll never forget, I was having a particularly rough day, and he asked if there was anything I needed. I jokingly said, “Yeah, a million dollars!”. Without missing a beat, he pulled out a fake million-dollar bill and told me to keep it. That moment turned into a running joke, and now I have a few of those bills hanging on my board. Frank introduced me to his car guy and helped me get the car I drive today. Every time I use it, I’m reminded of him. At work events, especially when I was newer, my husband and I would feel a little socially awkward, and we knew we could always count on Frank and Connie for great conversations. We were also so grateful he was able to attend our wedding, and that memory will always be special to us. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family. While our hearts are heavy and we'll miss his dearly, we find comfort knowing he is no longer in pain. We hope he’s driving all the finest cars in heaven!

    Antonio González-Salvador Angullo writes,
Frank offered me his friendship and affection from the first moment I met him. I still fondly remember our tennis matches every Sunday. By the way, Frank, I can finally tell you this. Do you remember when you let me drive your Porsche? Sherry and I had a little mishap that we never told you about—well, actually, it was me. I drove the Porsche with the handbrake on for almost a kilometer. The thing is, I found it strange how slowly the car was going even though I was pressing the accelerator. Anyway, I hope you don't hold it against me and that you're laughing about this story, up there in heaven. I'll never forget you.

    Ruth Gilbert writes,
Frank was an advertising client of mine, but always made me feel like a friend. He loved his family and always told me an interesting story or anecdote that made me laugh. He loved his radio commercial — “Pick up the phone and call Varone!” Years later if I ran into him somewhere he’d come up to me with a smile and recite his commercial and we’d laugh. I could always tell that he was one of the “good ones.” I am so sorry for everyone’s loss.
