Elizabeth Blakely Lucey

Elizabeth Blakely Lucey “Liz” Passed away June 10th, 2025, in Wilmington hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Liz was the daughter of Elizabeth Gene Lucey and the late Joseph Lucey. Elizabeth graduated from Padua Academy and from the University of Delaware.

Elizabeth’s passion was advocacy for those in the community who were underserved and needed support and understanding. Elizabeth continued to give back and help others with her gift of tissue donation through the Gift of Life program.

One of Elizabeth’s many talents was the ability to capture deep emotion with her words and writings which always left you in awe of the depth of her feelings.  She shared these thoughts with those she loved through text messages, sentimental poems, thoughtful letters, cards and notes which became treasured keepsakes. This was her gift to us.

Elizabeth had an infectious laugh, loved to tell joke, was witty with a sense of humor and animation that made the most mundane event a hilarious escapade. Elizabeth loved the beach, often sharing her memories of summer vacations spent with family, friends and cousins in North Wildwood New Jersey.

Elizabeth was interested in many things, researching her Irish heritage was one she shared with her father. Elizabeth and her father often spoke of their Irish family roots tracing   their ancestry from Ireland to Wilmington.

Above all else, Elizabeth’s greatest joy, her most treasured gift was her daughter Kylie. The ability to watch her daughter grow, to create memories, share experiences, form a bond…   It was a dream come true

Elizabeth often expressed how grateful she was to have the opportunity to share and participate in Kylie’s life to watch her become an amazing woman, loving daughter and incredibly kind and strong person.  This was the ultimate joy and blessing in Elizabeth’s life.

Elizabeth will be missed by her mother Gene Lucey, her daughter Kylie Windsor, her brothers Joseph, Mark, and his wife Jenna, her three nieces Emma, Celia, Ella, and her nephew Jack as well as her cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations in Memory of Elizabeth Lucey can be sent to: St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19810.

I have so many memories of Liz, I couldn’t pick just one. Me, Holly and Elizabeth hung out when we were kids, teens and ran into each other often as young adults. Walking to McDonalds, playing tag at night with the rest of Devonshire, sleepovers (once we weren’t afraid to), our pool, Fairfax Shopping Ctr, Concord Mall, the Y with her dad (Joe was a saint). So many great times and stories. Liz once picked me up when I needed help and took me to her house. I was about 19-20 yrs old. She brought me Izzy :) I live close to her daughter’s house now and think of her EVERY time I pass, which is often. I will miss her, but hope she is resting comfortably knowing that she is loved.

I was Liz's professor at Delaware Tech and I am in utter shock and disbelief. Liz was brilliant, complex, passionate, and loving. I loved our conversations and I loved her. She always expressed incredible love for her daughter and family. I wish you all peace and strength.

I write this through tears... Liz was my very first best friend. The Lucey family quickly became our second family. Devonshire was the road to live on. Summer time evenings catching lightning bugs or playing kick the can. So many sleep overs (when at my house, she never left home without Izzy) where we made ourselves sick with not one bowl of buttered popcorn, but two... Duffy always available to help out. Then to wake the next morning only to continue making ourselves sick by having not one buttered bagel, but two. Trying to roller skate in the basement on the cement floor with metal wheels, it was an accident waiting to happen and did. One evening after church we had spaghetti at our house and my dad jokingly said to Liz "that she couldn't get up from the table until she cleared her plate" poor Liz took him seriously then proceeded to throw up that spaghetti later that night. Often my dad would be swinging at bats that were flying over the pool at night with a tennis racket. I don't even know who played tennis at our house. Ah... who can't forget our first skinny dipping experience at 1900 Thomas Rd in our pool. Getting to watch Liz play basketball and going with cousin Diane to watch her in her gymnastics tournaments. The two of us trying to teach ourselves how to kiss a boy should the time ever present itself. I could go on... I will miss you, I love you. Rest in peace my dear friend. Liz was my very first best friend.
