Edwin Ernest Messikomer, age 82, passed away on May 12, 2022.
Eddie Messikomer was born in 1940 in Philadelphia, PA to Emil Henry Messikomer II, and Sylvia Becker Messikomer. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sandra Messikomer, brother Emil H Messikomer III, son Peter Messikomer (wife Kelly Messikomer) and daughter Susan Horenkamp (husband Matthew). Grandchildren Samantha Messikomer (24), Katherine Messikomer (21), Trevor Horenkamp (20), Lily Horenkamp (17), and Ryan Horenkamp (15).
Eddie grew up in West Chester, PA. He graduated from West Chester Senior High (now B. Reed Henderson High school) in 1958. His younger years were filled with sports, especially basketball and baseball. A highpoint of his life was being honored and inducted into The Kennett Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011 and being a member of the Chester County Sports Hall of Fame.
Eddie graduated from Duke University on an NROTC scholarship in 1962. He served on active duty for 5 years during the Vietnam War. He stayed in the Naval Reserves for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. While at Duke he was a pitcher for the Duke baseball team, was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honors society. After his Naval active duty, he obtained his PhD in Chemistry from The University of Delaware. Eddie was a career Dupont employee, holding many positions across the country. He retired after 25 years, as Director of Sales and Marketing for the Medical Products division.
Eddie was an avid runner and tennis player. He was a devout member and elder of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, member of Greenville Country Club and member of Seabrook Island Club. He enjoyed volunteering at the Seaman’s Center of Wilmington. He and Sandy loved spending time at their home on Seabrook Island, South Carolina and traveling the world, becoming particularly fond of river cruising in Europe. He loved filling his days running from one activity to the next, but above all spending time with his family.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to The Seaman’s Center of Wilmington, or Acts Signature Hospice Delaware.
