E. Allan Britton

E. (Everett) Allan Britton passed away peacefully after a long, rich, and eventful life on Wednesday, April 17th. He is survived by: son, Richard L. and Christina (Halloran); son, Thomas A. and Debra (MacLaughlin); three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Ryan and Courtney (Dwyer), Luke and Ella; Adam and Susie (Rojas), Owen and Cora; and Kathryn Britton.  He is also survived by two nieces and a nephew (Lisa and Scott Shockley, and Suzanne Fielden) and their families.  Allan was predeceased by his loving wife Louise (Trusell) of 58 years.

A lifelong Wilmingtonian, Allan was a graduate of PS DuPont HS, Lehigh University and earned a masters degree from New York University.  Allan served honorably in World War II in the MTO in the 12th Army Air Corp.  He married Louise in 1946 and they had two sons.  A second generation DuPont employee Allan had a thirty-plus year career in sales and middle management within the Plastics Division.

Allan loved the ocean and family vacations with the Shockley family.  He was a life-long golfer (DuPont Country Club), card player, and painter.  He and Louise moved to Stonegates in Greenville and enjoyed a rich and caring environment through and after Louise’s passing.  The family would especially like to thank Mrs. Jane Fox and Mrs. Margot Kuniholm, as well as the residents and staff at Stonegates, who made Allan’s last years so enjoyable.

Services will be held at the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to The Salvation Army.

My condolences to the Britton family. I had the pleasure of knowing Mr Britton as a young child, first as my Dad’s boss at DuPont and later, as a dear family friend. He was always so kind, funny and such a gentleman. Some of my favorite memories from growing up include him. He lived such a beautiful life and I hope your memories comfort you all.

Catia McConnell lit a candle and writes,
My Dear Mr. Britton, oh how much I am going to miss you! I am so grateful to have known you for so long. You are kind, funny, talented, told great stories about your life, your sons, & how much you missed Louise & I enjoyed every minute of it. Everytime I came to see you or take you to run errands, we always laughed so much. You enjoyed just going for a ride or just going to get your haircut & conversing with everyone there. You always treated me like a family. You always greeted me with a big smile from ear to ear & give me a big hug! You are so special to me & always will be. My heart is broken. You always made my day when I was with you. You are with Louise now & I know you were ready to go home. I love you Mr. B! Thank you for the memories. They are precious to me. Catia To Richard, Thomas & family, my thoughts & prayers are with you all. Mr. B loved you so much & always spoke of how proud he was of his sons & family. You all were very blessed to have had Mr. Britton in your lives. Always keep your memories alive & know he is now enjoying being with your mom without pain & young again!! Fondly, Catia
