Dr. Gaddum Veerender Reddy

In Loving Memory of Dr. Gaddum Veerender Reddy, M.D.

Dr. Gaddum Veerender Reddy, M.D., a beloved husband, father, brother, and devoted physician, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at his home of 34 years in Hockessin, DE, surrounded by his family and friends. He devoted his life to the healthcare profession and lived a life full of compassion, intelligence, and kindness. Dr. Reddy was predeceased by his parents, Pratap Reddy and Pullama Reddy. He is survived by his loving wife, Jyoti Reddy, and his two daughters, Varudhini and Vandhana Reddy. He is also survived by his brothers Jitender, Devender, his sisters Prema, and Pushpa, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his younger sister, Hema, and younger brother, Jaypal.

Born in Armoor, Telangana, India, Dr. Reddy was an exemplary son and student. His father’s dream of him becoming a doctor was fulfilled when he graduated from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, India, where he distinguished himself by winning a gold medal in Forensic Medicine. As the first physician in his family, he inspired many of his relatives to pursue careers in medicine. After medical school, he worked as a faculty member in the Physiology Department, further shaping his passion for education.

Dr. Reddy later moved to the United States, where he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Healthcare System and a cardiology fellowship at the VA New Jersey Healthcare System. He achieved board certifications in internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, and geriatric medicine. Over a distinguished 37-year career with the VA Medical Affairs, he served as Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Medical ICU at the VA Medical Center. He also shared his expertise as a clinical professor at Thomas Jefferson Medical School and Hahnemann Medical School. His passion for teaching was evident, earning him multiple awards for his commitment to educating the next generation of physicians.

Dr. Reddy was not only a dedicated physician but also a devoted family man. He was the rock of his family, always putting others’ needs before his own. As the eldest son, he worked tirelessly to help his siblings as well as guiding and mentoring several other family members through every stage of life. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family—he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

During his time in medical school, Dr. Reddy faced financial hardships and often spent long hours in the library as he couldn’t afford many of the textbooks. This experience inspired him to donate numerous books to his alma mater, ensuring that future generations of students would have access to the resources they needed to succeed. His contributions continue to serve as a lasting legacy in the medical school library.

A man of unwavering integrity, Dr. Reddy believed in always doing the right thing, both in his personal and professional life. He was a member of the temple and spent many years hosting Bhagavad Gita discussions with the community. His friends will remember him as someone to count on for good advice. His colleagues remember him as someone who would selflessly cover extra shifts, whether in the emergency room or assisting the Chief of Medicine with morning rounds. His family will remember him as the leader of the home, keeping everyone safe and well. His dedication, kindness, and fairness touched the lives of all who knew him.

Dr. Reddy leaves behind a loving family and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory. His life will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him, as he was a true example of what it means to live with purpose, compassion, and unwavering dedication. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in Peace,

Dr. Gaddum Veerender Reddy.

Dr Amy Wachter- Endocrinologist/Former Thomas Jefferson Resident lit a candle and writes,
I have fond memories of Dr Reddy when I rotated at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, where I am now an Endocrinology attending. I joined the Wilmington VA team after Dr Reddy had retired. While a Thomas Jefferson resident physician, Dr Reddy imparted hands on cardiology knowledge to all the young doctors in training in a generous and kind way. When I think back on my training, there are those who really made you feel welcomed, embraced you as a member of the team and prioritized your learning, and Dr Reddy was certainly one of them. RIP.

Christina Asuncion lit a candle and writes,
I worked with Dr.Reddy for about twenty years at the Wilmington VA. He always put the patients needs first and wasn't above coming down to the laboratory for a personal conversation rather than just making a phone call. He also took the time to explain/understand a veteran's medical situation to us, which we may not have been privy to. Thank you Dr.Reddy for your dedication and care to so many veterans!
