Dolores Amoroso Gilston

Dolores Amoroso Gilston, age 96, of Hockessin, DE died on April 21, 2024, at her home with her daughter and grandson by her side.

Dolores (Dolly) is the daughter of Italian immigrants Guiseppe Amoroso and Georgina Costa.  Dolly is one of 9 children and grew up on a farm in Newark, DE.  She graduated from Newark High School, class of 1945.  It is here that she met H. Gerald Gilston (01/18/1927 – 08/22/1992).  They were High School sweethearts who were married on October 9, 1948.

Dolores went on to become a stenographic supervisor for Hercules Inc.  She retired after 18 years to be a full-time homemaker when she was pregnant with her daughter.  She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Family meant everything to Dolly whether it be preparing delicious meals, cheering her daughter at field hockey and lacrosse games, antique shopping with her sister Delena or caring for her grandson.  Dolly was strong, devoted, fiercely protective, and overflowed with love.

She is survived by her daughter, Tera Gilston Mountain; grandson Ryan Thomas Mountain; sister, Delena Walker and many nieces and nephews.

Dear Tera and Ryan: Sorry we could not be with you at the family celebration of your mother’s/grandmother’s life. We have so many happy memories of times spent with her, both when I (Judy) was a young child and when Christopher and Jonathan would visit you on our trips to Delaware. Her memory will live on in our hearts. May she rest in peace. With all our love and sympathy. Roger, Judy, Christopher and Jonathan
