Dennis John Cannon

Dennis John Cannon, 76, of Hockessin, Delaware, went to be with the Lord on June 27th surrounded by his family.

He was born in Ridley Park, PA, the child of Dorothy and John Cannon. He graduated from William Penn in 1967 and went on to attend the University of Delaware where he earned a degree in marketing.

Dennis spent his career working as a senior account salesman at Weyerhauser, then International Paper, before retiring in 2011. Outside of work, he was deeply passionate about model railroading, a deacon for Brandywine Valley Church, and VP, Board Member, and the East Coast President of the AC Gilbert Heritage Society. He will be remembered above all for his unbreakable faith, remarkable positivity, sense of humor, and generosity.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, and their 54 years of marriage, as well as their children: Len, Doug, and Melinda.

Funeral Services

Celebration of Life services will be on July 13, 2026. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM followed by services starting at 11:00 AM at Brandywine Valley Church, located at 7 Mt Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Habitat for Humanity and Faithful Friends Animal Society in Dennis’ memory.

So sorry to hear of Dennis' passing - he was a fun guy and loved singing with the choir at church. I remember how he loved to have Jubilate over to his house after we sang and to show off his trains. We will miss him.

Dennis was an amazing man of faith and remarkably kind to our family. He opened his home to many at Christmas to share his love of trains, and our annual visit became not only a tradition but a favorite way to celebrate the season. We will miss him dearly, and our hearts and prayers go out to Pat and the rest of the family.

I know of Dennis through his love of model trains. Dennis was a member of the South Jersey S Gaugers, and he often invited club members to stop by to enjoy seeing his collection. Dennis was well known for his knowledge of American Flyer trains and his willingness to share that knowledge. He will be missed by all the members of the club. "In your journey, may all your train signals be green."

Dennis was my best friend. We had many fabulous times together, chasing toy train shows. He was my mentor in collecting and operating toy trains. Always positive, Dennis had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor. Terri(my wife) and I had many wonderful experiences with Dennis and Patti, not to mention our yearly visits to Gettysburg for New Years. Love T-n-T ❤️

Dennis was very easy to like. We both worked together at Weyerhaeuser for many years. The word was out about his love for trains and collectibles. He loved to host and share his joy and knowledge of all things 'trains'. He was one of a kind and Shirley and I will sadly miss him. We thought we'd have more time together with him and Pat.
