David M. Kasey

David Marshall Kasey, age 60, passed away peacefully at his home in Milford, Delaware on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Dave was born in Camden, SC in 1960. He was a 1978 graduate of Brandywine High School where he was a starting player on the Delaware State Championship basketball team in 1977. He graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1982 with a degree in Business Administration.

Dave had a long career in property management with Asset Management Alliance in Wilmington, and with MBNA in Wilmington, Delaware and Cleveland, Ohio. Over the years, he also operated a successful residential painting business.

Dave was an avid participant and fan of sports. Basketball was his primary sport at a younger age, but in mid-life he took up cycling, running, and competing in triathlons. He also enjoyed golf and softball. Philadelphia sports teams were a passion with Dave. He never missed a chance to go to a game, or watch his beloved Sixers, Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers.

From a young age Dave enjoyed fishing, which he learned from his father. He later passed along this family tradition to his son, Brian. Surf fishing from the beaches of Delaware and Maryland was a special joy for Dave. Of particular interest was fishing on Assateague Island in Maryland where he landed a record 52 lb. striped bass in 2011.

Dave could make friends with anyone. His children, family, friends, and his home were most important to him.

Dave is predeceased by his parents, Robert A., Jr. and Barbara S. Kasey. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie; his son, Brian, both of Wilmington; his sister, Gayle (Chuck) of Fort Myers, FL; his brother, George (Debbie) of Florence, KY, and their daughters, Stephanie, Lauren, and Melissa; and brother Allen (Trish) of Irvine, CA, and their daughter Corey and son Cameron.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Connecting Generations (100 W. 10th St., Ste. 1115, Wilmington, DE 19801) in honor of Dave.

I was in the class of 1979 in Brandywine HS and knew him. Later I worked with him as a contractor in some of the buildings he managed and I had a lot of respect for him as well as his direct reports which talked about him to me. Later I think I also saw him in a few MS150 mile bike to the bay rides in Delaware, we were all a part. He was a great person who was easily approached and known all around Delaware. He passed far too early. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Wow- too soon. Time with David - aka “Bacon” goes way back. As far back as second grade and then through high school. Class events, birthday parties, Sharpley vs McDaniel FB games. What a Basketball player he was. Humble and kind - just a great friend. I was blessed to reconnect while at MBNA. I remember meeting his daughter for the first time and thought - “mini me “ - that face! Prayers to his children, George and Gayle

His sister Gayle was a good friend of mine and whenever a group of us visited Gayle, if Dave was home, he always treated us with kindness. Gayle, George and Allen, I was so sorry to hear of Dave's passing and hope that you are doing as well as possible during this very difficult time. I remember fondly all of the backyard football games, whiffle ball, basketball, kick-the-can, Frisbee golf, riding bikes and everything else. Yours was a house that we all gravitated to and Dave was a great friend. As little kids one of our past-times was butterfly catching and to this day I can hear Dave say "Get my net!" My hope is that we all remember him as the humble, good-natured, fun-loving brother, neighbor and friend that he always was. With deepest sympathy, Peter
