David Lu

David Temann Lu, 22, passed away on October 28, 2018. He was born December 14, 1995 in New Haven, Connecticut. From an early age, he showed an aptitude for creating – building Lego models and drawing on everything he could get his hands on. In the rest of his spare time, he poured over books on whatever his current passion was at the time – from dinosaurs to cars to Star Wars – he categorized every detail until he became an encyclopedia on the subject.

He took easily to music – playing trumpet in the marching band, strumming on his guitar or ukulele at home, and always drawn to any piano in a room. A natural born athlete, he excelled at baseball and basketball – playing little league at Piedmont and basketball later at Pratt – and dominated as a defender in Lacrosse. The more time he could spend outside, enveloped by nature, playing basketball, or on a run or hike, the better. His abilities and hard work playing with the Silverbacks and A I DuPont High School teams earned him a scholarship to St. Vincent College to play as a freshman starter on the lacrosse team.

He was one of those people who could accomplish anything he set his mind to, so when he decided to change gears and study sculpture at Pratt MWP, he made the transition seamlessly. There he picked up numerous awards, created countless beautiful works and charmed his professors, classmates, and anyone lucky enough to know him. He continued on this path when he moved to Brooklyn to complete his degree at Pratt Institute, while also working with prestigious artists in the fine art world, including Alex Katz and the Stillhouse Group.

David was a prolific creator – always painting, sculpting, drawing, playing music, cooking elaborate meals, and so much more. Fun-loving, health-conscious, and with a truly one-of-a-kind sense of humor, his kind nature and gentle spirit touched everyone he knew. He leaves behind many beautiful and inspiring works, and a large number of loving friends and family who will miss him dearly and keep him alive in their hearts and minds.

Services for David will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the arts through donations to Pratt MWP at https://www.mwpai.edu/support
