Constance H. Henke

Constance H. Henke passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026. She was 94 years old.

Connie was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Leone Potts Howard and Walter Howard. She attended Wilmington schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, finishing at Friends School. She graduated from University of Delaware. After graduation, Connie married her high school sweetheart and classmate, David Henke. They lived in Van Nuys, California while he was in the Army. Upon discharge, they moved back to Wilmington, where she became an elementary school teacher, until starting a family.

Connie and Dave were married more than 61 years. They loved to travel. They completed an around the world trip and visited every state in the US, every province/territory in Canada and more than 50 countries abroad. Time off was spent in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.

Connie thoroughly enjoyed volunteering. The organizations she has supported included The Delaware Antiques Show, the Junior Board of Christiana Hospital, working at both the Wilmington Hospital and Christiana Hospital sites and also volunteering with national political committees. In addition, Connie enjoyed many bridge and luncheon groups, and especially loved family gatherings at Christmas time. She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated Flyers fan and season ticket holder.

Connie is survived by her daughter, Carol Johnson and her husband, Steve, 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Davis and her husband, Keith, and Lindsay Kelly and her husband, Lee, and by her son, David B. Henke. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Henke.  She is predeceased by her parents and by her sisters, Jean and Gwendolyn.

The Henke family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Christiana Hospital and the AccentCare Hospice, for their attentive, compassionate and proficient treatment given to Connie while she was in their care.

There will be no memorial service and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christiana Care Visiting Nurse Association, 1 Reads Way, Suite 100, New Castle, Delaware, 19720.
