Clara A. Santagata

Clara A. Santagata, 91, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home on July 3, 2018 with her daughter by her side.

Clara attended Wilmington High School. In later years she attended the University of Delaware Academy of Life Long Learning. Clara started working at the age of 16 at the Gentile Beauty Salon. She was a key hairdresser at Central Beauty Salon and it is where she met her husband, Leo. Together they ran the Rodney Styling Salon at the Hotel DuPont. She was also a riveter during WWII.

Clara was a great mom, grand mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She was a community volunteer, an excellent pasta maker, was strong in her faith, loved to garden and read. She whistled, played the piano, sang in community choir and loved to dance. As an artist, Clara even had art showings of her work. She loved people, especially her family. She treasured everyone in her heart and never had a bad word to say about anyone.

She was predeceased by her husband Leo. Survivors include daughter Christina Scott and Daniel Bowker of Waldorf, MD, grandson David and his beautiful wife MaKaia Scott of Rochester, NY, loving brothers Ralph (Esther), Ronald (Monica), and Vinney (Pat) Marcozzi, wonderful nephew and nieces Chris (Sue), Shelly, Elise (Brad), and many more nephews and their wives, her dear neighbor and friend Patty Rogers, and family in Pottstown, Rhode Island, Bethlehem and Wilmington.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
